Important!

We have designed this tool to keep your credentials and data safe.

You might be thinking "wow, this seems complicated!"

The truth is that yes, there are a couple of steps involved but please keep in mind that we have tried to make this process as easy as possible while protecting your privacy.

 

Step One: Download your data.

Please note, this tool should be used on a computer - not a mobile device. The data download function on the Instagram mobile application does not currently allow you to specify the JSON data format.

Complete the following steps to download your account information from Instagram:

  1. Go to Instagram.com
  2. Log into your account
  3. Go to your profile settings
  4. Select "Privacy and Security"
  5. Under "Data Download" click on "Request Download"
  6. Provide your email address and make sure you select "JSON" as the information format

Step Two: Unpack your data.

Your Instagram information will be delivered in a ZIP archive file. When you recieve the email notification from Instagram that your data is ready, follow the steps provided and save it to your computer.

Microsoft Windows

Complete the following steps to unpack your data on a windows computer:

  1. Locate the ZIP archive that you downloaded from Instagram using windows explorer
  2. To unzip all the contents of the ZIP file, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Apple Mac

Complete the following steps to unpack your data on a Apple Mac:

  1. Locate the ZIP archive that you downloaded from Instagram using windows explorer
  2. Double-click the ZIP file, and the file will decompress into the same folder as the compressed file

Step Three: Provide your data.

Privacy is important to us so we only need two specific files to complete the analysis. By limiting the information that you provide, we have no way of associating this information back to your Instagram profile.

From the data you recieved from Instagram, locate the followers.json and following.jason files from the "followers_and_following" folder. Load those files into the form and hit the "Process" button.

Important:
To make this easier, we could just ask you for your entire ZIP file... but then we would have all of your data and we would not be able to make our privacy committment to you. So while there are a couple of manual steps in this process, do yourself a favour and use our tool instead of a follow/unfollow mobile application to keep your account safe!

Step Four: Getting your results.
